This gathering in India far surpassed the previous largest tea party of October 2006, which was held by the city of Nishio, Japan. More than 14,000 tea lovers gathered there, enjoying green tea in the traditional manner of the Japanese tea ceremony. Nishio is known as a city where the highest quality tea is grown in Japan. It has been grown there since the year 1200, and is especially famous for matcha tea that is characterized by a mild but sweet taste. But big tea partiers do not need to go to the other end of the world. The author of many culinary bestsellers, Britain’s Mary Berry, hosted London’s largest cream tea party in July 2018. More than 980 people enjoyed British scones with jam and cream and cups of black tea. At this tea party, all of the nibbles were vegan and gluten-free. All of the money donated by her guests was collected for an association that cares for the elderly and helpless in London.
